About this book

Pip is gardening. Posy is playing noisy games. BANG! BANG! goes her drum. Pip asks her to be quiet, but Posy's having too much fun zooming in her car and sliding down the slide. So when Pip's new snail friend is scared by Posy's noise, Pip is cross with Posy. Yet it turns out that sometimes being loud can save the day!

This is one in a series of sweet stories about the lives of toddlers. Pip and Posy are very different, and this particular story is about valuing each other's differences, and about finding appropriate behaviour for the situation. The friends always resolve their quarrels, showing that you can still play together, even with different approaches.

The text is simple and has some fun noises to join in with, making it fun to read aloud to a little one. The friendly illustrations are warm, with lots of details to spot, providing conversation starters. Can the child find Posy hiding behind the bush, for instance.

A delightful book in a heart-warming series that's perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.

About the illustrator

Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany. At school he was good at art, but didn't think of a career in illustration until he won a cuddly purple cow in a drawing competition. He moved to England in 1982 to study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art, and then set up home in London.

He was the illustrator for Julia Donaldson's first picture book, A Squash and a Squeeze - the start of a hugely successful partnership. Their bestselling modern classic, The Gruffalo, has sold millions of copies. His books have been translated into 42 languages.
