About this book

Un diwrnod, mae octopws pinc enfawr yn ymddangos ar do tŷ teulu ifanc, ac er gwaethaf ymdrechion gorau’r frigâd dân, mae’n ymddangos ei fod yno i aros. Eto i gyd, pan fydd y plant lleol yn ei herio i gêm o bêl-droed, mae'r octopws yn chwaraewr brwdfrydig - yn ogystal â bod yn lithren gwych. Yn wir, mae’r octopws yn troi allan i fod yn help enfawr drwy’r flwyddyn gyfan – yn clirio eira gyda’i tentaclau anferth, dod o hyd i deganau yn sownd mewn coed a bod yn goeden Nadolig wych a dweud y gwir. Pan fydd yr octopws yn diflannu un diwrnod mae pawb yn drist iawn - nes iddo ddychwelyd gyda syrpreis gwych i bawb!

Mae stori odli grefftus Peter Bently, wedi ei addasu gan Aneirin Karadog, yn wych i’w darllen yn uchel, gyda rhythm byrlymus a geirfa ddoniol a fydd yn swyno gwrandawyr bach ac yn sicr o ddod yn ffefryn cyson. Mae'n syniad mor hurt y byddai octopws anferth yn cyrraedd ar do am ddim rheswm (ac yn dod mor ddefnyddiol), ond dyna lawenydd y llyfr hwn, ynghyd â darluniau lliwgar, llawn cymeriad Steven Lenton. Rydym yn wir yn teimlo ein bod yn adnabod Mrs Antrobus gyda ei chyrlers gwallt mawr a sliperi, a'i chymuned amrywiol a chyfeillgar - a'r octopws ei hun, wrth gwrs. Mae’n ddarlleniad clyd a gwirion, yn berffaith ar gyfer amser gwely ac unrhyw adeg arall o’r dydd pan fo angen stori.

One day, a huge pink octopus appears on the roof of a young family's house, and despite the fire brigade’s best efforts, it seems that it’s there to stay. Yet, when the local children challenge it to a game of football, the octopus is an enthusiastic player – as well as being a brilliant slide and rollercoaster. In fact, the octopus turns out to be a huge help through the whole year – clearing snow from driveways with its giant tentacles, finding toys stuck in trees and being a frankly spectacular Christmas tree. When the octopus disappears one day everyone is very sad – until it returns with an excellent surprise for everyone!

Peter Bently’s wonderfully crafted rhyming story is brilliant to read aloud, with a bouncy rhythm and hilarious vocabulary which will delight small listeners and is sure to become a regular favourite. It’s such an absurd notion that a giant octopus would arrive on a roof for no reason (and become so useful), but that’s the joy of this book, coupled with Steven Lenton’s colourful, characterful illustration – we really feel like we know Mrs Antrobus with her big hair curlers and slippers, and her diverse and friendly community – and the octopus itself, of course. It’s both a cosy and silly read, perfect for bedtime and any other time of the day when a story is needed.
