About this book
Murray the cat and Bun (the bun) are best of friends. Murray is a dreamer who loves his home comforts and Bun, well Bun just loves everything! In this instalment, they journey through their magic cat flap for another outrageous adventure, this time to a land of pirates.
As soon as they arrive, the action begins as they are kidnapped by the fearsome Captain Patch and taken aboard his ship. Then, the pair find themselves involved in a dangerous treasure hunt where they must face the perils of Monster Island, journey over mountains and through swamps, and deal with an enormous sea monster called Margaret!
This is a pacey adventure that will delight young readers with its humour, excitement, and vibrant illustrations. Stower’s writing is brilliant and the contrast between Murray’s more cautious approach and Bun’s enthusiasm leads to some hilarious situations. The action is fast paced, and the visual storytelling adds so much with visual gags and details to pore over.
This, the third in the Murray and Bun series, is an excellent choice for newly independent readers and can be read either as a standalone or as part of the series. Its quirky humour would appeal to older readers too, and it’s a perfect read for anyone craving a dash of light adventure and a hearty laugh.
