Lumi and the Wolf

Lumi, who is autistic, is high in a snow-covered tree rescuing a trapped bird when she first sets eyes on the wolf.  

 She knows she should be afraid of him but when they both get caught in a blizzard and end up sharing a shelter (and a sandwich), she‘s not frightened at all, just curious. 

 Later, when Lumi researches lone wolves, she decides that he probably feels as alone as she does and when she discovers that a local farmer has been given permission to shoot her wolf, she is determined to get him to safety. 

 But that means a journey on foot to the National Park over 100 kilometres away. And although she makes a list, draws a map and stocks up on supplies, she soon discovers that even the best-laid plans don’t always go the way you hope.   

 Told in very short chapters which increases accessibility, Lumi’s epic adventure across the frozen, inhospitable landscape sees her avoiding hunters, surviving terrible weather, going ice fishing, making snow lanterns and having a near-death experience. All because of the deep connection she feels with the wolf. 

 This beautiful story is a celebration of Lapland, neurodiversity and nature conservation.
