About this book

This clever book shows the exact size of various deadly animals – or their key parts – spread across the pages. Zoomed in, it’s fascinating to see how big a caiman’s jaws are, why the design of a cheetah’s paw means it can run super fast, and what a lion’s spiny tongue would look like as it pounced towards you. Look out! Plus, of course, the smaller predators are shown in all their deadly glory, including bullet ants, Chinese bird spiders, scorpions and dragonflies. Yes, dragonflies – the most successful predators of all, due to their ability to fly fast and in every direction, and their super eyesight!

Along with the details of each animal’s expert way of catching their prey, there is info on their environment and their fellow predators. And a final spread compares the size of some predators – the great white shark is 20 Lifesize books long, while the Bengal slow loris is only 1 book long – and encourages the reader to measure themselves (using the book) to compare.

Sophy Henn’s vibrant, detailed illustrations and the bite-size chunks of information about each animal add up to a fascinating book that will have readers shivering with delight and/or delicious fear.
