About this book

Lenny, Mummy and Wilbur the dog are in the garden. Mummy is busy digging holes for new plants and watering the flowers, but Lenny is having his own adventures: finding snails that leave a silvery trail, sighting a spotty, dotty ladybird on a leaf, and watching a grasshopper as it hops in the tall grass!

When Mummy is finished with her gardening, she and Lenny sing a song about all the small things that Lenny has found in the garden, and they go inside for lunch. It’s been a busy morning!

The latest in Ken Wilson-Max’s adorable Lenny series explores the (for some children) everyday and pleasant experience of being in the garden at home. Using interesting and accessible vocabulary and a song at the end, Lenny in the Garden makes for a fun and interactive reading experience as well as a relatable, simple tale about toddler life.

The focus on nature – learning the names of some of the things we might find in a garden or in woodland, and their sounds or movements – is a nice additional element, and perfectly pitched for toddlers and preschoolers.

About the author

Born in Zimbabwe, Ken Wilson-Max lives in London. He has written and illustrated over 50 books for children. He also illustrates things for grow-ups and businesses and publishes work from other creators through Alanna Max.

As a younger man, Ken made stories from what he saw in his travels. He was excited and so the work was exciting. As he became more experienced and familiar with his surroundings, he saw that everyone had a story to tell. He became determined to inspire others to tell theirs. He found this made his stories much better. It also allowed him to experiment and learn. Since 2014, he’s also been publishing the Chicken Newspaper for children all over the world.
