About this book
Tickle my splinters! Stick Insect has fallen in love at first sight with another absolutely stunning Stick Insect – only, it's actually a stick. Yet Stick Insect doesn't let this major perception problem stand in the way of him imagining a series of romantic escapades with the object of his desire: ice creams on the beach, surfing, skating, going to the fair... it's a no-holds-barred Happily Ever After. But, eventually, he has to face reality.
Chris Naylor-Ballesteros' illustrations, reminiscent of Axel Scheffler and Bethan Woollvin, are expressive and hilarious. The concept of the book works well: love at first sight is all very well, but getting to know people properly usually works out better. The butterfly's eye-rolling at Stick Insect's flights of fancy is particularly amusing. Excellent fun.
