About this book
How many animals can fit in this book? Ant has the answer: this book is big enough for one ant, and no more! But surely there must be room for two friendly lions? And three lovely crocodiles? Despite Ant’s complaints, the empty pages are soon crammed with zebras, penguins, meerkats, snakes and more, in numbers from one to ten.
This early counting book by Natalia Yaskina is full of character and humour. Readers will enjoy the grumpy little ant as it grows increasingly frustrated by the chaotic animals filling up the pages. There is a fun search-and-find element as children spot and count the animals, and a great predicting mechanism as they are given a chance to guess the next incoming creature based on a pictorial clue.
This brilliant book has a timeless feel reminiscent of Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar with its bold colours and simple, friendly animals. This would make a great introduction to numbers 1-10 for young children and could be very easily adapted into counting activities in educational settings.
