About this book
Princess Alice loves her snuggly blankie, but one day it goes missing. Who could have taken it? Alice sets out to find the blankie. The quest leads her to a kind witch and a hospitable giant, and finally to the dragon who has it. But how will he sleep without it? Can Alice solve the problem?
A bouncy, cheerful rhythm carries the quest for the missing blankie onward through the book. As a result, the book demands to be read aloud. The pattern of the story is reminiscent of Julia Donaldson’s Tiddler and Cressida Cowell’s That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown. The classic quest or "shopping list" plot brings a pleasing sense of order and structure to the story. Children will enjoy predicting where Alice will head next and meeting familiar characters on the way back towards the palace.
This is a charming book that stresses the pleasure of sharing and features a brave, resourceful and compassionate young heroine who is in no way a stereotypical princess. The pictures add lots of humorous detail, such as a house full of cats for a kind witch, which children will love spotting and talking about.
