Girl With a Sabretooth Tiger

About this book

Eleven-year-old Swallow lives in prehistoric England with her tribe. When her baby sister is ill, Swallow is determined to find a precious piece of jadeite stone to cure her. The tribe’s stories say that the journey to find jadeite will be long and dangerous, but Swallow knows she can do it. Even with the unwanted companion of a friend, Ishi. Using the stars and the spirit of a sabretooth tiger to guide them, Swallow and Ishi encounter many perils and challenges along the way. Will their quest be successful?

This is a thrilling Neolithic adventure that’s beautifully written, with short lyrical sentences, and is infused with the spirit of ancient storytelling. The evocative black-and-white illustrations in every chapter help give the reader a visual sense of the prehistoric world that Swallow inhabits, which makes this unfamiliar world more accessible. This is not a long story, and it has pace. An excellent read.
