About this book

Fairytale creatures from across the land are gathering for a very special picnic. Everyone’s excited, everyone’s preparing. While Cinderella helps Rapunzel with her updo, Jack is making his famous bean casserole, and Puss is searching his shoe collection for the perfect pair of boots.

To get to the picnic, they all need to cross a bridge, which is home to a grumpy little troll. When the troll starts hurling insults at everyone in Fairytale Land, he grows bigger and bigger, and the partygoers get more and more sad! With familiar characters like Three Little Pigs and Rumplestiltskin caught up in the chaos, there’s plenty of fun to enjoy as readers discover how they might outsmart this troublesome troll.

Beneath the laugh-out-loud humour of this story lies a thoughtful message about unkind words and the importance of not giving bullies the reaction they crave. It’s a brilliant conversation starter for little ones, without ever feeling preachy.

Gravett’s illustrations are full of charm, character and playful details to pore over together. With her trademark wit and a sprinkle of fairytale magic, this book is a real story time treat.
