About this book
Do you know your apes?
If not, don’t worry. Huw and Sam, the guides for an expedition through wild places, are here to teach readers about chimpanzees, Western and Eastern gorillas, bonobos and Sumatran, Bornean and Tapanuli orangutans.
Beginning with the evolutionary origins of apes, and looking at the common ancestors that humans and apes share, Huw and Sam move on to explaining how apes live now, including what they eat, what environments they inhabit, how they live in communities, care for each other, learn and communicate.
There is also a note about extinction for apes, and a reminder that all apes are endangered. However, there are some ideas about how we can protect our ape friends, including observing World Gorilla Day on September 24th, and supporting charities that protect apes and recycling laptops and mobile phones – many of which include a metal ore that is mined in Central Africa, often destroying gorilla habitats.
This is a really interesting and helpful book which will be of huge appeal to young wannabe primatologists and animal fans.
