About this book

6-year-old Ruby and her little sister Indiana love hanging out with their dinosaur expert dad. They’re always dressing up as dinosaurs and playing hide and seek in the family museum.

One day, Little Indie runs into Dad’s study, and suddenly there's a flash of light and a rumbling noise. Little Indie has vanished! Dad’s secret is revealed: he can change into a dinosaur and travel to a secret island. Ruby and her dad must follow Little Indie – to Dinotropolis!

Off they go to a world of talking dinosaurs, with nurseries and rock bands and even a Dino-Lympic Games. But can they find Little Indie?

This story has a slightly madcap feel to it as Ruby and her dad follow the energetic Little Indie through the complicated magical world. But the family dynamic is delightfully sweet, and it’s great to see a dad having fun with his daughters.

The reader is introduced to many different dinosaurs, albeit ones that can talk, so dinosaur enthusiasts will enjoy learning their names. There are dino facts at the end of the book too. Steven Lenton’s black and white illustrations are cute and full of energy – making this a very appealing book to read with young children.
