About this book
The town of Marzipan has an abundance of exceptional bakers but sadly, Cinnamon Crumb isn’t one of them – she even burns toast.
Nonetheless, every year, Cinnamon looks forward to The Great Cake Carnival, a ten-day extravaganza of events, stalls, and masterclasses to showcase all things sweet and sugary.
Cinnamon’s ramshackle family bakery, Crumb & Sons, is squeezed in between the two most prestigious establishments on Choux Street: Victoria Sponge’s Tea Emporium and Madeleine Macaron’s Mouthwatering Delights. The two owners, Victoria and Maddie, are bitter rivals and each year, they battle it out to win the coveted Twelve-Tiered Crown, awarded to the baker of the most delicious cake in the carnival.
This year, Victoria and Maddie each suspect the other of underhand tactics, so both surreptitiously recruit Cinnamon to spy on their opponent.
Packed with humour and intrigue, not to mention a profusion of mouthwatering treats, this scrumptious tale of sabotage will have readers guessing until the very end. Some serious topics are tackled too, such as dealing with jealousy, following your dreams and understanding Tourette syndrome, which is sensitively explained.
The story is elevated further by a generous helping of superb black-and-white illustrations, which are full of entertaining details.
