About this book

Cinder is a beautiful young girl, who also just happens to be a cyborg living in the futuristic city of New Beijing. In the care of an unsympathetic adoptive mother she is forced to work all day as a mechanic in the hot, busy market. Despised by humans for being different she has no friends apart from her helper robots. But Cinder’s troubles pale in comparison to the epidemic that is sweeping the planet, a vicious, incurable plague which has taken her loving, adopted sister.

Cinder’s unhappy life suddenly gets very complicated when she meets the royal prince, Kai, and is thrown into his world of glamour and interplanetary intrigue. Torn between love and duty Cinder must discover her true worth before she can save the lives of those around her.

This extremely imaginative take on the Cinderella story sees the heroine step out from behind the prince and forge her own destiny. Marissa Meyer does a fantastic job of inserting elements from the well-known fairy tale into an exciting new setting, such as replacing the glass slipper with an undersized robotic foot! This book forms part of the Lunar Chronicles and anyone who reads it will intrigued to find out how Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Rapunzel fare in this strange new world.
