About this book
Fourteen-year-old Siki is an orphan of the Black Mountain Apache tribe. Her father failed to return from an ambush in Mexico, while her mother was killed by raiding Mexican soldiers.
Siki already has a fierce hatred for the Mexican warriors but when her little brother Tazhi is brutally slain in front of her, she vows with all her heart to become an Apache warrior and avenge his death.
This is a moving and powerful story of one woman's determination and courage in a world of great suffering and hardship. It is a fascinating view of the Native American struggle and makes for a thrilling, if at times uneasy, read.
