About this book
Asher is annoyed that Mum’s fiancé Hugh has moved into their flat, especially as it means sharing his bedroom with Hugh’s son, Luca. His irritation turns to alarm when he begins to suspect that Luca is a werewolf.
Asher is prone to exaggeration and Mum refuses to believe him, so he sets out to gather proof that he’s living with a monster.
He enlists the help of his neighbour, Helga, who happens to be a werewolf expert. Their findings seem to confirm Asher’s worst fears: Luca has extremely hairy legs, an epic monobrow, and an exceptional sense of smell – he even likes chasing balls! Just when they think they have collected enough evidence, events take a surprising turn at the Halloween Funfair.
Asher is a likeable protagonist whose poor decisions lead him from one disaster to the next. Gradually, he begins to recognise the impact of his behaviour and wonders if he could show more empathy to those around him.
This funny chapter book for junior readers features a cast of larger-than-life characters, an outlandish plot and lively black-and-white illustrations.
As well as lots of laugh-out-loud moments, the story explores complex family dynamics and friendship with warmth, sensitivity, and humour.
