Mildred the Gallery Cat

During the day, the Art Gallery is filled with people admiring the paintings and sculptures of some of the world’s most famous artists, while Mildred – the black and white cat who lives in the gallery – snoozes in her basket. But when night falls, Mildred springs into life and has the artworks all to herself!

As Mildred explores the different rooms, she encounters all sorts of wonderful art – art that makes her feel excited, contemplative, and even hungry - and wonders what kind of art she could make. Can a cat become an artist, too?

Jono Ganz’ gorgeously illustrated tale was inspired by Mildred, the real gallery cat that lives in the Tate Modern, and wondering what she would do when all the crowds went home. Amid bursts of colour, fun textures, and Mildred’s adorable paint-pawprints through the book, you might also be able to spot some clever nods to famous works of art!
