Magical Pets: A Practical Guide

Publisher: David Fickling Books

When choosing a magical pet (Vampire Bunny? Unicorn? Dragon? Lucky Frog?), it’s wise to consider the implications of your choice. What do they eat? Do they need much exercise? Are they more of an inside or outside pet? Dragons, for instance, might be a bit of a commitment in terms of fire-proofing. Looking after a magical pet might be tough, but it will also be great fun.

This wonderful book by debut illustrator and writer Anya Glazer is a fantastic combination of a book about finding the right pet – an important experience in a child’s life – as well as a whimsical imagining of a variety of magical beasts. The illustration is full of expression and fun and reminiscent of Clara Vulliamy in its slightly retro pastel look.
