Let's Play!: Poems About Sports and Games from Around the World

Publisher: Frances Lincoln Children's Books

Following Let's Celebrate, Chatterjee and D'Arcy have now selected almost 40 poems about sports and games from around the world. Although there are a handful of traditional, anonymous rhymes, and extracts from well-known poems from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, most of those included here are recent, and several are by one or both of the anthologists.

Adl's energetic illustrations add immeasurably to the choice of poems, with colourful spreads which often interpret the subtext for readers. At the end of the book there is a section which gives brief facts about each sport featured in the poems, including its geographical origins and how it developed into its modern form, as well a brief overview of its rules.
