Happy as a Lamb: Choose Your Mood, Express Your Feelings

Publisher: Mama Makes Books

Are you as happy as a lamb, or as grumpy as a goat? What about choosing between as excited as a puppy, or as sad as a sick bunny?

In this original and delightful board book, children are offered ways to describe their feelings – good or bad – and, when they look under the pleasantly chunky pull-out puzzle pieces opposite, they can find suggestions for things to do if they feel a little sad, grumpy, scared or embarrassed, from jumping around the room, to finding someone who makes them feel safe and asking for a hug.

Fitting the big puzzle pieces into their slots also provides little ones with a satisfying task to do and a way to practise fine motor skills, and the questions in the book enable carers and little ones to talk about their emotions openly and honestly, with plenty of reassurance that it’s OK to feel whatever we feel.

Happy as a Lamb is a very clever and well thought out board book, but it’s really more of a tool for enabling communication about feelings with children which feels fun and has a toy-esque quality that children will love. Highly recommended.
