Art & Max

Publisher: Andersen

Max and Art are reptilian friends pictured in a sparse desert landscape. Art is an artist and one day, as he is painting a conventional portrait, the exuberant Max decides that he’d also like to give painting a try.

The chaotic and colourful results are not confined to the paint brush and canvas and the whole landscape is soon filled with vibrant colour.

This is a lovely picture book about art and friendship from the three time Caldecott medallist David Wiesner. The detailed and funny illustrations (complete with a cast of bemused reptilian onlookers) make this an enjoyable and entertaining book that delivers a liberating have-a-go message to any potential young artists.
