Goodbye to our Writer in Residence SF Said and congratulations to our winners!

Published on: 30 August 2023

The tenure of our Writer in Residence SF Said has come to an end and he has picked the winners for his competition!

I've been blown away by all the entries to my creative writing and art competition!  There are so many brilliant young writers and artists out there, and I want to congratulate each and every child who entered, as well as all the teachers, librarians, parents and carers who helped and encouraged and nurtured their creativity.  You are all amazing!

I've picked one winner in each category, and two highly commended entries that I'd also like to highlight.  The winners' schools will each receive a class set of my book Tyger, which has just been published in paperback.  And all entrants will receive a free classroom poster.

These competition entries have been a highlight of my time as BookTrust Writer In Residence, which is now coming to an end. Over the last six months, I've loved sharing tips and insights into how we can help every child become a reader.

I now feel sure that every child can also be a writer, an artist, or whatever they might dream of being.  I really do believe that children can do anything they put their minds to, and that we can help them do those things.  So please keep encouraging them to read, to write, to draw and to dream!  And thank you for reading and engaging with my blogs – it's been a pleasure and a privilege.
