What's Cooking, Jamela?

Publisher: Frances Lincoln

This is the second story about Jamela, a little girl who lives in a South African township. Everyone is looking forward to Christmas amd Mama buys a chicken to fatten up for the special meal. But Jamela calls the chicken Christmas, feeds her and grows fonder of her as she gets fatter.

Finally, she saves Christmas from the pot by declaring that 'Christmas is a friend and you can't eat friends!' So Mama makes stuffed marrow instead and everyone is happy, including Christmas.

This is a warm and funny family story, with vibrant illustrations full of domestic detail, both familiar and exotic.
