Two Nests

Two birds, Betty and Paul are perched in a tree. Betty asks Paul (very nicely!) to build her a nest and they snuggle up together. Come Spring, Betty lays an egg. Welcome, Baby Bird, whom they both love dearly.
But living together in a small nest isn’t easy: and at last, sadly, they decide that Paul needs another nest – elsewhere. Tears are shed. Baby Bird misses his Dad. But Betty reassures him: once he had one nest, now he has two and both his parents love him just the same.
This simple rhyming story, with its airily elegant, avian characters will help explain the difficult subject of family break up to younger children, using the image of two separate nests on opposite branches of the same tree.
