Take Back the Skies

Publisher: Bloomsbury Children's

Born into a government family, Catherine Hunter is wealthy, privileged and saved from the Collections which regularly send children off to a war from which none have returned. And yet she is utterly miserable.

Detesting everything her family stands for, she transforms herself into Cat, an abandoned street urchin, stowing away on a skyship to brave the storms that surround her island home. Once airborne, the truths Cat has used to navigate her life are gradually exposed as extravagant propaganda, hiding wickedness beyond imagination, and her personal rebellion develops into a battle of good against evil.

As an introduction to other-world fantasy fiction this is engaging and accessible but it will appeal most to younger teens.
