Mo, Lottie and the Junkers

Mo Appleby didn’t want a sister – but now he’s got two, thanks to his mum re-marrying. Just as he’s starting to get used to flamboyant Lottie, and Sadie, who only speaks Cat, things get even weirder – a sinister woman moves into his old house and wants to be their new best friend.

Soon Mo and Lottie are battling addictive ice cream, death-defying lollipop men and a whole host of madcap characters. Mo and Lottie team up to unravel the mystery, but what they find out is wilder than they could possibly have imagined…

Mo and Lottie are a hilarious double act. Their narration makes this rollercoaster of a plot incredibly funny to read. Alongside the humour is some well-judged emotional drama around their missing parents.

This is a great book for readers who are looking for the next laugh-out-loud fantasy to read after My Brother Is a Superhero, or Iguana Boy Saves the World with a Triple Cheese Pizza. The plot, however, turns out to be more grisly and gruesome than either of those, so readers do need to be prepared for a bit of body horror.
