Lying About Last Summer

Publisher: Scholastic

Last summer, Skye had lots of friends, was part of the swim team and lived in a nice big house. But then her sister Luisa died in a tragic accident, and now everything has changed.

Skye's parents send her to a week-long holiday camp for bereaved teens, to help her move on. Then she begins to receive texts from someone pretending to be her dead sister - and decides no one can be trusted.

This YA debut is a moving account of overcoming grief, and also a gripping psychological thriller as Skye tries to find out who is behind the texts. The tension and the emotion are balanced superbly throughout the novel, particularly through Skye's strained relationships with her group at the bereavement camp.

There are some heavy issues throughout the book (drug dealing, minimal drug usage and suicide), but this is all handled well and shown from Skye's critical view.
