King Rollo and the Bread

Publisher: Andersen Press

King Rollo and his Magician go for a walk in the countryside and meet a farmer who is about to sit down and eat some bread. Rollo wants to show off how clever his Magician is, so he orders the magician to turn the farmer’s bread into a chocolate cake, spaghetti and all manner of other treats, despite the farmer’s protests that all he really wants is the lovely bread his wife has made.

Eventually, Rollo gives up and, now rather hungry, accepts some of the bread that the farmer kindly offers.

Another wonderful, simple story from David McKee in which King Rollo learns a lesson in humility and that sometimes, the simple things are the best.
