Hic!

A little girl tries lots of crazy antidotes to her hiccups, but none of them work. The author suggests reading this book, but can’t promise it will do the job. The book ends with a blank page, ready to be filled with your own suggestions of how to best get rid of them…

The remedy scenes in this book are enjoyably bizarre – ‘tie a ribbon round your nose and spell C-A-C-O-P-H-O-N-I-C’, and the alternating ‘hic!’ pages get more and more disastrous. A retro blue-and-mustard palette adds style to the unusual illustrations.

Children with hiccups will sympathise with the little girl’s frustrations, and the chance to add in their ideas is a brilliant opportunity to interact and be creative with rhyme.
