Activities and rhymes

Brilliant things to make and do this National Bookstart Week... and beyond.

Activities and rhymes image for National Bookstart Week

National Bookstart Week is all about sharing books, stories and rhymes and we've got everything you need to bring everyone together to celebrate.

There’s an owl headband to make and decorate, a penguin, flamingo and owl to colour in, and eight bird rhymes to say or sing.

Listen to the Bookstart Bird Boogie Rhymes

We've recorded this year's National Bookstart Week rhymes for you and your family to enjoy together. It doesn't matter if you say or sing the rhymes - younger children just love to hear the sound of your voice and older ones will want to join in. All you need to do is print out your Bookstart Bird Boogie rhyme sheets, play the recordings below and you'll be rhyming and singing along with your little ones in no time at all.

A huge thank you to Tina Fellows, Lambeth Early Years Literacy Officer, and winner of our Bookstart 25th Anniversary Rhymetime Award, for giving up her time to record the rhymes.
