"You're totally brilliant": Read Liz Pichon's Christmas letter to children

Published on: 29 November 2024

This Christmas, we're sending 18,000 festive book parcels to children who are in care or whose families are visiting community food banks.

Along with a book, the parcels contain a poster, postcard and bookmark designed by Tom Gates author-illustrator Liz Pichon - and she's also written a special letter to the children. Read it below!

Hello!

I'm Liz Pichon and I write books, draw and make things. (If you've read a Tom Gates book that's by ME.)

BookTrust asked me to design a poster and write this letter to YOU. I was thrilled to hear that you're getting a VERY special book pack this Christmas from BookTrust. HOORAY!

I really hope you enjoy the books and they SPARK your imagination. Books can do that. And if not, balance them on your head and try walking, books are just SO useful.

Can I tell you something about myself? When I was little I found reading tricky and struggled with spelling and maths. YEARS later, I found out I was dyslexic and it all made more sense. (I still find maths and spelling tricky.)

Never in a million years did I think I'd be writing and drawing my own books as an adult. I can honestly say that books have changed my life and given me so much pleasure.

So have the BEST time reading these wonderful books and enjoy making up your own stories and peoms as well! You're totally BRILLIANT and FABULOUS and I'm sending you so much love,

Liz xxx
