Bad Nana: Older Not Wiser

(1 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 5)

Publisher: HarperCollins Children’s Books

Bad Nana is quite unlike Jeanie’s other two grandmas: she dresses entirely in black, with an occasional sparkly pink turban that makes her look like an alien overlord. She may or may not have been responsible for making fart noises when the park-keeper bent over to pick up a sweet wrapper that one time, and she’s been banned from the line-dancing club.

So when Jeanie and her class go on a school trip to possibly the most boring local history museum in the world, it’s no surprise that Bad Nana manages to make it a lot more interesting than anyone expected.

A delightful book about an unusual grandma’s adventures with her granddaughter, Bad Nana is a riot of bright colour and laugh-out-loud moments, with a gentle story about friendship and overcoming bullying underneath it. Young readers might well identify with Jeanie’s occasional nervousness – and secretly wish that they too had a Nana who was as much fun.
