Nick Sharratt's silhouettes perfectly reflect the mood of Jacqueline Wilson's first historical fiction, set in London's Foundling Hospital in the 1870s.
The infant Hetty is left there by her distraught mother, then farmed out to a family in the country, before returning to the Hospital aged five.
Removed from her beloved foster parents and siblings, the rebellious Hetty seeks desperately to uncover her birth mother’s identity, eventually reaching an unexpected and reassuring resolution.

These fiction books are all set in the nineteenth century, and are suitable for ages 7-11. They provide an insight into Victorian lives, shining a light on different aspects of society, with settings as varied as Cardiff, London and a travelling circus. They are all realistic stories.

This is a book about a girl 👧 who was brought up in the foundling hospital. I enjoyed it so much. Read it because the series keeps getting better!

I like how you go back in time to 1876 to discover Hetty's hard life in in the countryside and the Foundling Hospital. I liked how the story took me on a journey with her in finding her long-lost Mother.

This book is really sad. Hetty couldn't be looked after by her Mother, and is taken into care, basically worked as a slave. But the ending......it is the most horrible ending ever. I thought it was really sad. =[

I think that this book is brilliant at showing how an orphan feels in victorian London and it is really interesting and is a great start to the Hetty Feather triliogy!
