Life at home is hard for Calypso. Her mum's death has left her father in a fragile state. As Calypso becomes a child-carer for her father, her friendship with new girl Mae feels like the only good thing in her life. But can she let Mae and her lovely mum find out what life is really like at home?

Jo Cotterill deals with some really important issues in this short, sweet little novel that might bring a tear to the eyes of more sensitive readers. It's beautifully handled and Calypso is a strong, relatable character dealing with things way beyond her years. Her magical friendship with Mae is a joy, and it's lovely to meet two characters so besotted with books!

Believable, memorable, charming and moving, fans of Jacqueline Wilson's domestic dramas will enjoy this bittersweet story of a family finding their feet in the next chapter of their lives.
