Julia Donaldson's first ever picture book is the story of an anxious little old lady, whose house is just too small - but when she asks a wise old man for help, he suggests a rather strange solution to her problems.
Pairing Donaldson's jaunty rhyming text and charming, witty illustrations by Axel Scheffler, it's no surprise that this delightful picture book has become a classic. This beautiful edition of a much-loved favourite has been published to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the book, and contains extra material, including some of Scheffler's first sketches for the illustrations, and some background about how the book came about from both Scheffler and Donaldson.

Introduced this when little one was 3½ - enjoys it and tells me which animal is coming in next and what they will do. Lovely rhyming story that would suit much younger children too with familiar animals and objects to expand their vocabulary. Typical Donaldson - doesn't disappoint.

Thomas loves this book. He loves the rhymes and the animals in the book. He can tell me what's coming next and if I give the book to him to read can tell me the story from the pictures.
