The Tapper Twins Tear up New York

(4 reviews with an average rating of 5 out of 5)

Publisher: Orion Children's Books

The Tapper Twins return in this sassy sequel to the madcap Tapper Twins Go To War (With Each Other) that pounced on the Minecraft phenomenon. This time it's more low-tech but just as competitive as the twins embark on a school scavenger hunt across New York.

Their parents provide additional banter and the reportage style writing makes for a fun, interactive-feel that will appeal to Wimpy Kid graduates and older reluctant readers. Annotated photos, documented texts and group chat conversations keep it up-to-the-minute modern and sibling and school rivalry creates some genuinely hilarious moments.

It's a brilliant tour around the city too, with contemporary culture used to great effect - one item on their scavenger hunt list is a much sought-after 'cronut' from a boutique bakery. These are fairly privileged kids and much of the humour and culture is US and more specifically NYC-centric but any readers comfortable with American TV programmes and Wimpy Kid culture will be in familiar territory.

Wacky, fast-paced, silly and quite unique - The Tapper Twins Tear Up New York proves that once again, Geoff Rodkey knows exactly what a 13 year old wants to read about.
