Spark is a programme for special schools designed to inspire a love of stories and books in children with additional needs.

Spark aims to:

  • enable practitioners to engage students with books and storytelling
  • engage students with books and storytelling
  • develop a love of books and stories amongst children with additional needs

In Spark, we have included a range of resources to suit both primary and secondary aged children, depending on the needs of your pupils. We have included two books in the pack to support you to engage students and inspire a love of reading.

Please note that to be eligible for Spark, you must be a special school based in England.

Registration for Spark 2018/19 is now closed. Registration for 2019/20 will open in October.

Encourage reading for pleasure

Bookbuzz supports schools to encourage reading for pleasure. Participating schools give their students the opportunity to choose their own book to keep from a list of 17 titles suitable for children in Year 7 or 8 and selected by a panel of experts.
