Story Hunters

This programme is no longer running.

Story Hunters was a programme to help struggling or reluctant readers by taking Year 4 children on a reading adventure.

Reading for pleasure can have a dramatic impact on a child's educational outcomes and wellbeing. To encourage that love of reading, every pupil who signed up to Story Hunters received a monthly personalised pack of books and activities over a six-month period. Every pack included at least two carefully chosen books, plus engaging games and resources that children could share with their families.

It was all based on our award-winning Letterbox Club model.

What was inside the packs?

  • Books: These included a mix of different genres, from classic stories through to poetry and non-fiction books.
  • Activities: There was a writing activity or game in each pack, ranging from letter-writing skills to games that families could do together.
  • Stationery: Relevant materials were included to encourage writing and drawing, and to support independent learning at home.
