Who’s Wearing a Hat?

...Is it the Orange Cat?

Publisher: Usborne

This attractive baby book uses a jaunty, repeated rhyme and rhythm to encourage children to look at the bright, cartoon-style pictures and notice details.

Each page shows a group of animals, from cats to frogs, playing, perching, eating and doing other activities. There is a question on each page, along the lines of "Who’s wearing a hat?", and the child, guided by an adult, is encouraged to point to the appropriate animal.

The energetic text encourages the reader to go through the pages at a fast pace, and the pictures are busy, with plenty to talk about and count, and many opportunities to develop familiarity with language and widen vocabulary.

The orange cat turns up on the final page, in an echo of the same publisher’s successful "That’s not my…" series.
