Up and Down
Publisher: HarperCollins Children's Books
In this charming sequel to Lost and Found we rejoin Boy and Penguin who do everything together until one day Penguin decides he needs to try something on his own - fly. After a succession of failed attempts at flying Penguin realises penguins aren't supposed to fly and returns to his faithful friend on the ground.
This is a delightful study into the importance of friendship and independence. The penguin is like a smaller sibling trying to copy everything their older brother or sister does before setting out on the road of independence.
Oliver Jeffers manages to express so much through his deceptively simple watercolour illustrations, full of humour and pathos.
