The Bad Trousers

Publisher: Barrington Stoke

The Little Gems format from Barrington Stoke is very appealing - pairing well known writers and illustrators with their tried and tested production which aims to help dyslexic and reluctant readers with specially designed cream paper and a clear font. Ros Asquith's story is a delightful addition to the series. Robbie lives with his Mum, Dad, Granny Knit and their cat, Annie-Kit. Granny is always knitting and may have something to do with the trousers in the book's title, but Robbie's more concerned about his upcoming birthday. He desperately wants the red tractor as his present, but Mum thinks a new school coat would be a better idea.

With illustrations from Mairi Hedderwick of Katie Morag fame, this gentle family story is sweet and warm without being too slushy. Children will enjoy this cheeky tale thanks to Asquith's charming writing and Hedderwick's familiar illustrations. A lovely way to make learning to read fun.
