Publisher: Chronicle Books

A colour and pattern-filled picturebook which builds its story on the old children's game, Chinese Whispers. The opening spread shows us a street of colourful houses with telephone wires running above the houses, on which sit a row of grey birds. As we turn the pages we meet each bird sitting there, now brightly coloured and quirkily attired, and each in turn speaks to the next bird, to pass on a message.

Peter's mother, a pigeon, wants him home for his dinner, but as each succeeding bird hears the message, they interpret it according to their own interests. Luckily the last bird realises what the real message for Peter was. The final spread shows everyone back home, happily eating dinner!
