Street Heroes: Runaways
Book two of the Street Heroes series
Publisher: Frances Lincoln Children's Books
The second in Layburn's Street Heroes series of short novels aimed at reluctant readers, we meet again Georgie, who has chosen to live on the streets since his father's fascist party's defeat, Melissa, who has learning difficulties but understands right and wrong very clearly, and Fatima, whose blindness has never hampered her ability to see justice far more clearly than many sighted people.
Like Georgie, Jack is also a runaway, but Jack is escaping abusive family relationships. Hyun-Mi has escaped from the oppression of North Korea, and guided by Fatima's telepathy, eventually makes it to the UK.
Although not as convincingly plotted as his earlier book, Layburn nevertheless challenges his readers to examine serious issue of ethics and political morality.
