Stomp, Dinosaur, Stomp!

Publisher: Orchard Books

A limited palette of extremely bright colours emphasises the images of dinosaurs and the qualities of their environments in this book. Each creature is shown in a stylised way, with unlikely colouring, and the verse with each identifies the basic characteristics of its appearance, lifestyle, and diet.

There is a predictable pattern to the verse, and a lot of action verbs, particularly in their verbal noun forms, chomping, charging and plodding through the pages to the final spread of a grand dinosaur parade.

Mayo manages to squeeze a surprising amount of information into this formulaic text, and completes it with endpapers which act as a reminder of all the dinosaurs, with a phonetic guide to the pronunciation of their names.
