Volume two in the Larklight saga continues all the delightful eccentricities of its predecessor, and further convinces us of Reeve's amazing literary versatility.
As we might expect, the free holiday which Art and his reunited family are offered isn't quite as advertised, as the hotel slips back and forth through time. They are threatened by giant sand clams and man-eating starfish, while the guests behave strangely as the cunning, sinister, and almost unstoppable True Enemy sucks the thoughts from their minds, with potentially disastrous consequences.
Wyatt's splendid illustrations add immeasurably to Reeve's text, and readers are once more drawn into a parallel S.F nineteenth century awash with bizarre inventions and deeds of daring do, to produce another thoroughly entertaining, ripping yarn.
