Small’s Big Dream

Publisher: Harper Collins

In Small's world, everything is small – her house, her shoes, her bed. Everywhere she looks, she’s reminded that her dreams are too big for a girl like her. So, she decides to swallow them, stamp on them and push them down deep within, apart from at night when they take over her sleep.

The thing is, dreams don’t like being ignored, and they have a way of surfacing. Small’s dreams begin to grow, spilling out and carrying her up high. When she climbs trees and climbing frames to get closer to her dreams, the adults tell her to get down and keep her feet on the ground. But she can’t help it, she’s heading up towards the blackened sky amongst the stars. Soon, she’s sitting on the moon watching other Smalls like her floating through space. Now Small knows there are more like her, she believes in her big dreams and refuses to squash them down anymore.

Using a beautiful mix of soft, smudgy pastels, the illustrations in this picture book instantly grab hold of you and transport you into Small’s dreams. It’s an inspiring and uplifting story which make us think about our own dreams – no matter how big – and how we can make them a reality.
