Scribble Witch: Notes in Class
Publisher: Hodder
How can any nine-year-old be expected to write a stupid plan for a stupid story about stupid pirates when she has just found out that her best friend is starting at a new school… tomorrow! And why can’t stupid, smelly teacher Mr Stilton see that this is absolutely the end of Molly’s world?
When a tiny, papery witch called Notes emerges from Molly’s pen pot she hopes for some magical solution to her problems. But Notes is a most unusual witch who doesn’t quite understand how school works - and some of the ‘helpful’ things she does make matters even worse. Is Molly doomed to be miserable forever? Or will Notes learn the rules in time to save her from a friendless future?
Inspired use of typography, doodles and incidental illustration adds energy and personality to Notes’ antics and the widely spaced text makes the story accessible and easy to follow. Many seven to 10 year olds will relate to the highs and lows of Molly’s school life and will be chuckling along to Notes’ unique use of language and hilarious exploits.
This would be an ideal first ‘chapter book’ for youngsters who are beginning to develop confidence in reading independently.
