Rising Stars: New Young Voices in Poetry
Publisher: Otter-Barry Books
A new collection of poems from five young poets, all aged 26 and under. Each poet presents eight original poems, covering a range of topics and themes. The poems are illustrated by students of Birmingham City University illustration course. The poets have been mentored by Joelle Taylor, founder of SLAMbassadors UK, and the book is produced in collaboration with Pop Up Projects and the Arts Council.
This selection of exciting and inspiring poems from young talent is guaranteed to get young minds working, and hopefully writing poetry of their own. There is lots to love, here: each page packed with interest and questions. Creative forms include haiku, prose poems and verses of all shapes and sizes.
The best thing about the collection is its accessibility. As with all great writing for young people, it is clear and welcoming in its simplicity. Although the poems deal with complex issues and ideas, they are presented in ways that anyone can interact with and should inspire conversation.
