Old Dog

Publisher: Andersen Press

The Young Pups, like many of their young readers, shy away from visiting Grandpa Dog because they think he’s old, smelly, embarrassing and boring.

But they get the surprise of their lives, and change their opinions very quickly when he demonstrates that when he was young he ran away to the circus, and hasn’t forgotten the tricks he learnt.

Ross’s illustrations should always be carefully examined for the unsaid details which can be found, and Willis never talks down to her young audience, presenting readers with a funny, thoughtful reminder that even the old were young once.
